CAMEO

CAMEO is recognised as one of the music industry’s most dynamic, enduring, and popular acts, selling over 30 million records worldwide over five decades. The founder and leader of Cameo, music icon and legend Mr. Larry Blackmon, has been the guiding force of CAMEO for 50 years, from its inception to the present day. Mr. Blackmon has decided to retire from live performances and touring. He maintains his position as the guiding hand and driving force behind CAMEO, and is excited to announce CAMEO’S next phase led by his sons!

CAMEO’s exciting, funk-filled live performances are also carried out by core members who have been with the band throughout the history of CAMEO’s eighteen albums including Kevin Kendrick, Jeff Nelson, Willie Morris, and Anthony Lockett. The legacy of CAMEO has also been infused with new energy with the addition of AJ Mills, the son of longtime CAMEO bassist Aaron Mills. CAMEO’s signature sound, infectious grooves, and assonances have been copied, imitated, covered, reproduced, replayed, and sampled by many artists, including Tupac Shakur, Boys II Men, 8-Ball & MJG, Fatman Scoop, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, KORN, Will Smith, and many more. Most recently, superstar artist Beyonce Knowles-Carter couldn’t resist taking a “chunk of the funk” from CAMEO’s smash hit, “Candy,” to interpolate into her cover of “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze for her “Homecoming” live album and feature film. CAMEO’s music has been featured in several major film releases, hit television shows, and worldwide commercial advertising campaigns including Coca-Cola’s famous “Cherry Coke” commercials, and advertisements for Mountain Dew. The infectious sound of CAMEO permeates all that needs to be blessed with “The Funk.”

Today, CAMEO continues to enjoy global fame and recognition while delighting fans with timeless hits from its huge musical catalog. These funky soul anthems are played daily around the globe, on TikTok, and other means of media. Grandparents, grandchildren, and all in between embrace the music of CAMEO as part of the soundtrack of their lives and culture.
